We try to steal the loot and avoid the guards. Huge plot twist.
I have a love/hate relationship with Nintendo.
The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was my first ever console, and I still own it, as well as a library of games, but some are so old they won’t work anymore. To hold a copy of your favorite game, only to have it give you the ol’ flashing red light or glitched out menu screen has to be one of the saddest moments for any gamer.
That’s why when Nintendo announced their launch of the NES classic, I was SO excited. It was like they actually listened to their fans. 30 classic games, including a HUGE chunk of my library of non-functioning ones! Improved graphics, so I could play on my television and not worry about stretched out graphics ruining the immersion! I could play 2 player (with the purchase of a second controller, but hey; Nintendo marketing)!
I didn’t care how much it was, it had to be mine!
What you are about to read is part of a Google Hangout chat that a bunch of the Tech Geek Gamers crew and friends have going. Friend of the show arnexmandell shared his thoughts on the current state of Destiny and we wanted to share this with our fellow TGGers out there. Enjoy!
“Destiny is dead. It’s over. I have run every strike in the game, many, many times. I have every weapon I could ever conceivably want and have shard’d more God rolls than I care to admit. I have every combination of T12 build-outs and exotic armor. I am rank 35ish Dead Orbit. I have led countless LFG raiding parties trying to reach Oryx on HM, booting kids and racists with impunity. I remember when they scrapped the original Thorn Quest, and I was soooo excited. I remember my first legendary weapon, a high-impact heavy machine gun with void damage – I held on to that for ages. I once smashed Oryx using a 297 1kYS. I saw some amazing teamwork, like when bolt_thistle helped me to defeat the Shadow Oryx in that arena on Phoebos (you know the one). Or, when bolt_thistle helped me to get my exotic sword. Or, when bolt_thistle helped me to get the Black Spindle. [Damn bolt_thistle! You were Tenzing Norgay to my Edmund Hillary – I owe you big time!]
But, what’s left? The new Raid is not impressive. It doesn’t require the coordination or teamwork of The Taken King, or the knowledge you needed to pass the Vault. Once you have the Light Level, you just run it a few times until you pass. Supremacy Iron Banner is a piece of shit! I like fast paced, arena style, combat (think Call of Duty: Modern Warfare), but Destiny doesn’t have balanced primary weapons to support that pace of engagement, and the maps aren’t tight enough. Festival of the Lost is boring. (I am sorry, it is.) The idea of grinding purely for vanity items never appealed to me. There are no new maps. There are no new strikes. Without a next horizon, Destiny is dead. All that’s left is glory, for glory’s sake.
This is why I am going to take a step back. I am not done, but it is time to explore new horizons and new games. I may still pop in, but I can’t say that I have the drive to grind to 400, or to complete the Yellow Book. I might raid, because the Tech Geek Gamers (TGG) clan is awesome and it’s amazing to share that accomplishment. hungryCL and I are looking to rebuild the leadership of TGG (clean_mod, you still have an ‘*’ next to your name), this will also be a focus.
I am grateful though. I had a lot of fun. My girlfriend hates Destiny – she thinks I should spend 1000% of my time with her, but she doesn’t realize that the summer she spent doing research in Uganda, I was engaged and at home when I could have been binge drinking and getting into trouble. Also, I joined TGG and found an awesome community. Then there was that time that hungryCL and I kicked everyone out of TGG, which was great, but then realized that it’s not much of a clan without clan members and welcomed everyone back (you’re welcome). I am grateful for Destiny.
There is one accomplishment, one itch in Destiny left. House of Wolves was a big deal for me, and Rise of Iron re-released an armor set for the Queen’s Guard. I think I might spend some time hunting down the Fallen on Venus and in lvl 28 POE, to complete armor sets for both activities. This is an insane grind tho. At 1,000 rep per week, and 3,000 rep per level, it could take a long time… unless, Bungie drops a new event… we’ll see. Or, maybe if Iron Banner comes back as Control… that would be okay…”
