I love video games, because of them I have found friends that have lasted almost 20 years; they have brought some of the best times of my life with my friends and family. They have also brought me absolute pain, anguish and frustration, I am still not sure why when I jump in Battletoads it looks like I’m going to make the other side of the gap but then fall to my doom again and again, and again. I started playing when I was 6 years old, my mom and dad gamed, probably mostly my dad and he sucked my mom into it. I had an Atari 2600, well dad did, then I went through the consoles like many of you have probably done, but my brother and I made the detour down the SEGA CD and 32x road for the month or so that lasted.
Some of my favorite game memories playing Gran Turismo 2 in Mark’s basement trying to get gold in the Licence tests and mocking each other when we got shameful shameful bronze. Leaving right after school and picking up Ocarina of Time and playing until I fell asleep in my game chair, controller in hand; seriously my mom woke me up in the morning wondering why I hadn’t come up for breakfast, a fast dash to change my clothes and a nap in my social studies class and I was ready for more that night. My brother and I used to play Sonic pinball while listening to Pearl Jam’s Ten album, and if it wasn’t’ that it was WWF RAW on the genesis, or Super Mario Brothers 2 (really all of the SMB series), or Virtual fighter on the Saturn while listening to Tea Party – Edges of Twilight. Even watching my wife bowl a perfect game (100 pin) in Wii Sports Resort, which I still have not done but I absolutely dominate her in real bowling.
So what’s my point? Well to be honest I am not really sure, I hope many of you have had the same experiences that I have and share them I hope that’s why you enjoy watching us.
