It all started with my uncle owning a pinball machine and snowballed from there. A cousin with an Atari. A friend with a Sega. The discovery of the arcade and the sudden need for an allowance paid in quarters.
Breaking the cardinal rule ‘no videogames in this house’ my father bought my sisters and I a Nintendo Entertainment System. All I recall from that Christmas were threats to disconnect the power if we didn’t turn it off and obliterating Super Mario Bros. Oh, and learning to hate that damn dog in Duck Hunt.
As an avid console gamer that prided myself on how many games I wrapped in however time, it wasn’t until titles like Dungeon Siege and Diablo that I started to like gaming on a pc. Team Fortress showed me the fun of online gaming (and ganking your friends on a scramble). Then World of Warcraft and the idea that there is no ‘end’; there’s dailies, dungeons, alts, raids, achievements, pvp arenas (also the discovery of my own foul pvp mouth). Then Steam and buying and downloading titles straight to your pc. Damn those summer sales and awesome indie titles!
Needless to say, gaming has always been a part of my life. To be able to share opinions and hear others take on titles and experiences is why I was honored to join up with TGG. It’s fun!
f.y.i. I still have that NES console, and it still works perfectly. Just don’t ask about the dent in the controller that matches my rage at trying to hit the final level in Gauntlet.
